AUGUSTA — The Maine Emergency Management Agency said Tuesday that Mainers who want to help the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes should donate money to volunteer agencies.
In a release from MEMA, Maine Gov. Paul LePage said Mainers need to focus their generosity in places that can provide the most help.
“When we see the pictures of the devastation in Oklahoma, we immediately want to help,” he said in a statement. “We need to focus that generosity in a way that can be effective immediately. That means supporting the agencies that are already active in the relief effort.”
The United Way of Central Oklahoma has activated a Tornado Relief Fund. Donations are being accepted on the agency’s website at www.unitedwayokc.org. Donations by credit card can also be called in to 405-523-3598.
Checks can be mailed to: United Way of Central Oklahoma, P.O. Box 837, Oklahoma City, OK 73101, with the notation of May Tornado Relief.
