AUGUSTA — A city man who broke into the Windsor Veterinary Clinic and left his boot prints in the snow leading away from the building pleaded guilty Tuesday to burglary and unlawful possession of prescription drugs.

John F. Gilboy, 38, of Augusta was arrested March 21 in Windsor by a Maine State Police trooper who saw him walking along a road, away from the clinic.

He told the trooper that the fresh blood on his hands had come from a fight, but the boot prints led to a broken window at the clinic, a prosecutor told Justice Michaela Murphy. Gilboy also was intoxicated and had Suboxone strips and Clonazepam on him, the judge was told.

Gilboy was sentenced to three years in jail, with all but 120 days suspended, and two years of probation. He was fined $400 and ordered to pay $903 in restitution. Probation conditions ban him from being at the clinic.

A number of other people were sentenced in separate hearings Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court:

• Jonathan Brewster, 31, of Waterville, operating after habitual offender revocation April 6 in Augusta; four-year jail sentence, all but nine months suspended, two years of probation, $1,000 fine.
