CORNVILLE — A Skowhegan man was taken to the hospital early Wednesday after a two-vehicle collision on Route 150, according to Somerset County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dale P. Lancaster.

The accident occurred at 7:15 a.m. when a 2012 GMC work van being driven by Thomas Fitzmaurice, 60, of Skowhegan, collided with a 2009 Ford sport utility vehicle being operated by Darlene Buzzell, 62, of Wellington, Lancaster said in a prepared statement.

Both vehicles were traveling south on U.S. Route 150 at the time, he said.

Buzzell had stopped for a stopped school bus, Lancaster said. The bus had its red lights on at the time.

Fitzmaurice’s van crashed into the rear of Buzzell’s Ford and both vehicles were extensively damaged and had to be towed from the scene, Lancaster said.

Fitzmaurice was taken by RFGH ambulance to Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan with non life-threatening injuries, he said.

Buzzell was wearing a seat belt; Fitzmaurice was not, he said.

The school bus was not hit and no children were injured. The accident is under investigation. Neither alcohol nor speed were factors in this crash, he said.
