The Augusta City Council is currently deciding between two natural gas companies for service to municipal buildings. I’m writing today to encourage council members to choose the company with the best prices.

I have been an Augusta resident for all of my life. I own a house in Augusta, taught mathematics at Cony High School for years and now teach math at Kennebec Valley Community College. It is the combination of being a longtime Augusta taxpayer and math instructor that leads me to pay attention to our community’s budget.

There’s been a lot of discussion about the tax increases we might see this year. That’s why choosing the natural gas company that can provide us with the largest savings is so important. Both of the company’s rates are posted on the city website. It doesn’t take a mathematician to see that Maine Natural Gas will save the city money.
