Heat lamp was likely Farmingdale fire cause

FARMINGDALE — A fire that destroyed a Farmingdale house and barn was likely started by a heat lamp used to keep nine piglets warm in the barn, the State Fire Marshal’s Office said Friday.

The extent of the damage at 477 Litchfield Road was so severe that investigators can’t say for sure what happened, said Sgt. Joel Davis. But they ruled that it was an accidental fire and believe it can be linked to the heat lamp.

Last July, a heat lamp warming a duck at the same address caused a garage fire that was quickly extinguished.
