A Norridgewock man was charged Thursday with domestic assault and obstructing the report of a crime after allegedly attacking his estranged wife in his car in Mayfield Township.

The man, Arthur Dickinson, 45, also was hospitalized after reportedly ingesting pills, according to Detective Lt. Carl Gottardi of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s deputies with a tracking dog and state police on the ground and in an airplane were sent just before 11 a.m. to a dirt road off state Route 16 near Kingsbury Pond. The route connects the towns of Abbott Village and Bingham.

Gottardi said Dickinson took the woman to the area against her will and damaged her phone when she attempted to call police. Dickinson reportedly took several pills then ran into the woods.

The woman was found by police and taken to safety. Dickinson was found by the tracking dog and was taken into custody about 1 p.m. and was taken by ambulance to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan for treatment.

Further charges may be forthcoming once the matter is reviewed by the district attorney’s office, Gottardi said.
