AUGUSTA — Two people were taken to the hospital by ambulance following a two-vehicle crash on Hospital Street near Dyer Drive and Augusta Disc Golf just after 5 p.m. Friday.

Sgt. Chris Shaw said both drivers were northbound and reported seeing a small boy playing with a stroller near the road.

Kari Sukeforth, 23, of Gardiner, who was driving the leading car, hit her brakes, anticipating that the child was coming into the street, Shaw said. Her 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier was struck by a 2005 Ford Explorer vehicle traveling behind her.

The Explorer was driven by Madolyn Sage, 67, of Augusta.

Sukeforth and a passenger, Robin Wilson, 45, of Litchfield, were taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center.

Neither Sage nor a passenger in her vehicle reported injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Shaw said no charges are anticipated.
