CONCORD TOWNSHIP — Two people were taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after an accident involving an all-terrain vehicle and a pick-up truck.

The accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Little Houston Brook Road, according to Bingham Fire Chief Scott Lawyerson.

Lawyerson said Little Houston Brook Road is a dirt road that is used for logging. Although he responded to the accident, Lawyerson said he did not see the location and wasn’t sure if there were ATV trails intersecting the road or in the nearby area.

He did not know the names of the people involved or the extent of their injuries, but said the two men were taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan. A LifeFlight helicopter was initially called to the scene but later canceled. Lawyerson said he believed the injuries to be non life-threatening, but couldn’t say for sure.

He said that the Bingham and Moscow area usually sees about four or five ATV accidents every summer.

“We’ve had rainy weather and the season is now just starting. I’m not sure what happened with this particular accident, but we do have a lot of dirt logging roads and in general people do not always adhere to the designated use for those roads,” he said.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Department and Upper Kennebec Valley Ambulance also responded.
