AUGUSTA — In 1981, the Maine State Legislature proclaimed the last Saturday in June to be designated R.B. Hall Day. The governor annually issues a proclamation inviting community bands across the state to observe this day to honor Maine’s own R.B. Hall, an internationally recognized composer of marches who was also an accomplished conductor and cornet soloist.

Old Fort Western will host the special event. Community bands from all over the state will converge at the fort and play from 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Saturday with the fort and the Kennebec River as their backdrop.

Admission to the fort will be free. However, donations toward educational programming will be welcomed.  Old Fort Western will grill hotdogs and offer refreshments. All proceeds will benefit the non-profit organization.
