NEW ORLEANS — For the first time in six years, the American Association of University of Women presented the Achievement Award to recently retired U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe. Seven Maine delegates attended the ceremony at the AAUW Convention in New Orleans, including Betty-Jane Meader, AAUW of Maine president from Waterville, according to news release.
Snowe invited the Maine delegates to meet with her prior to the VIP reception and banquet on June 11. “We were proud to be representing Maine at a national AAUW event honoring a former senator from Maine,” Meader said in the release.
Snowe joined the ranks of past award winners which included Madeleine Albright and Gloria Steinem. For more information about AAUW, visit www.aauw.org.
