A Canaan woman walked away from a single-car crash with minor injuries Saturday after splitting a utility pole in half, police said.

Bethany Randall, 29, of Canaan, did not need to be taken to a hospital after wrecking her 2000 Ford Expedition when she lost control of her vehicle turning off Route 23 onto Sand Road, said Dale Lancaster, deputy chief of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department. Lancaster said Randall was wearing her seat belt.

According to Lancaster, a passer-by helped Randall out of the vehicle as live utility wires lay around the Ford. Skowhegan emergency services arrived, as did Deputy Joe Jackson and Cpl. Richie Putman, but Randall didn’t need to be taken anywhere for medical treatment.

Lancaster said alcohol or speed are not suspected as contributing factors in the accident.
