MANCHESTER – Heavy rain forced Maine State Golf Association officials to suspend the 94th Maine Amateur at the Augusta Country Club on Thursday afternoon.
The lead group, including Ricky Jones, Ryan Gay and Tommy Stirling, was approaching the green on the par 4 8th hole when a tournament official halted play.
An MSGA official said the par 4 11th hole was under water and unplayable.
Jones took a 6-shot lead into the final round but is now in a fight with Stirling.
Stirling birdied three of the first four holes and is 4-under for the tournament, two shots behind Jones.
Jones is 1-over for the day and 6-under for the tournament.
Gay is also 1-over for the day and trails Jones by six shots.
