A document that’s held dear by most Americans is the Declaration of Independence. It states, in clear and certain terms, an intent to separate from Great Britain, and as importantly, to list the many reasons leading to that decision.

Over the years on July 4, the newspaper has seen fit to print the document on its Opinion page for all to read. I missed having that opportunity this year.

With all that’s taking place in these United States and the world, we need more than ever to be reminded of the work in which those patriots were involved and their dedication to seek redress from the wrongs of a king and Parliament.

That document gave many comfort and encouraged the creation of this great country.

Once a year we should celebrate by reading that, “… all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
