A Massachusetts man was killed in a motorcycle accident Monday afternoon along Route 16 in Lang Township.

Michael Rezendes, 42, of Billerica, Mass., was driving a motorcycle east on Route 16 at 12:07 p.m. when he failed to turn a sharp corner and his bike struck a truck, killing him instantly, according to a news release from Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols.

Rezendes was traveling in the front of a group of four or five other bikers, Nichols said. Rezendes, who was driving a 2007 Honda VTX, lost control and slid into the lane of an oncoming Webber Oil company propane truck driven by Stephen Grant, 60, of Rangeley.

Nichols said Grant tried swerve to avoid hitting the cyclist.

The road was closed for several hours with Rangeley Fire Department helping direct traffic.

Maine State Police Trooper Bernard Campbell, Deputy Sandy Burke, Det. Ken Charles, Lt. David Rackliffe and Chief Deputy Steve Lowell responded to the accident.

Lang Township is just north of Rangeley.
