AUGUSTA — A city man was flown to the hospital Monday after crashing his motorcycle on State Street.
James Young, 77, was taken by a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to an area hospital to be treated for a head injury and back and rib pain, said Augusta Police Sgt. Christopher Shaw. None of the injuries were believed to be life threatening.
The crash occurred around 2:45 p.m., as Young drove his Honda Goldwing north on State Street. Shaw said Young’s motorcycle struck a curb near the Capitol Street intersection and he was thrown from the bike. Young, who was wearing a helmet, hit his head when he fell, Shaw said.
Driver inexperience may have been a factor in the crash, Young said. Young registered the motorcycle just earlier this month.
Augusta men arrested after alleged break-in, assault
AUGUSTA — Two city men were arrested early Monday morning after police said they broke into a Chapel Street apartment and assaulted a man inside.
Augusta Deputy Police Chief Jared Mills said the perpetrators, Christopher L. Brown, 38, of Gage Street, and Aaron M. Tardiff, 25, of Chapel Street, were arrested after breaking into the unit to assault a man, who had a relationship with a woman Tardiff had a relationship with in the past.
Police responded to a report of disorderly conduct on Chapel Street at 12:46 a.m. Monday.
Brown was charged with assault, aggravated criminal trespass, criminal mischief and obstructing report of a crime, while Tardiff was charged with aggravated criminal trespass and criminal mischief.
Brown has a long criminal history, according to Kennebec Journal archives. In 2010, he was sentenced to five years in jail with all but six months suspended for burglary, theft and other crimes. The next year, he was given 21 days in jail after violating home release conditions.
In May 2012, he was given a suspended sentence and two years of probation for burglary and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer. In January, he was arrested on a warrant after a report of disorderly conduct on Gage Street.
