FAIRFIELD — Kolby Lawrence had a pair of hits and Brandon Nale doubled to lead Central Maine past Portland 9-5 in an opening round game of the 14-year-old Babe Ruth state tournament Friday at Keyes Field.
Sam Bell also doubled while Connor Garland earned the victory for Central Maine (1-0), which will play Apple Valley today at 11 a.m.
Jake Hunnewell and Izaak Friou each had two hits for Portland, which will play Augusta today at 2 p.m.
Apple Valley beat Augusta 4-3 in the other game Friday.
Tom Small and Chris Florek each had two hits to lead Apple Valley. Eli Colder earned the win.
Brady Smith doubled while Dameron Roderique and Ryan Sinclair each had singles for Augusta.
