FRIENDSHIP — Lobstermen are competing for prizes and bragging rights at lobster boat races in the midcoast town of Friendship.
Saturday’s races are part of the summer-long series of lobster boat competitions in ports along the Maine coast from Portland to Eastport.
Boat owners compete for cash and prizes as they roar their engines and spray roostertails as spectators watch from shore and boats that line the courses. The fastest of the souped-up boats can reach speeds of 60 mph or more.
Next week’s races are slated for Harpswell.
