FARMINGTON — A Chesterville man will make an initial court appearance Sept. 11 on charges of sexual contact with a child under the age of 18.

Jeffery J. Mitchell, 39, was arrested Wednesday on charges of unlawful sexual contact and unlawful sexual touching, according to Franklin County court documents.

Mitchell was arrested by Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Detective Ken Charles. Charles investigated the case earlier this month after he was contancted by the Department of Health and Human Services.

The alleged crimes occurred in 2005 in Chesterville, according to the court documents.

Additional information about the case was not available.

Mitchell was released from Franklin County Detention Center on $3,000 unsecured bail.

Unlawful sexual contact is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Unlawful sexual touching is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and $2,000 in fines.
