Jefferson Historical Society archivist Cathy Walker, right, inspects a World War II airplane observation map today with Society President Marilyn Speckmann, on the second floor of the Old Jefferson Town House.

Volunteers have been renovating the 1869 structure for more than a decade and historical society members were organizing the recently completed second floor, Speckmann said, for an open house to be held Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Town House served as an observation post for spotting suspicious aircraft during World War II, Walker said, the the maps were discovered on the second floor.
