A Madrid woman accused of robbing a Kingfield pharmacy will be prosecuted at the federal level.

Michelle Wilcox, 28, will be prosecuted in U.S. District Court in Bangor, according to Assistant District Attorney Jim Andrews.

Andrews said the decision to prosecute Wilcox at the federal level was part of an effort to combat pharmacy robberies through harsher penalties and greater involvement from the federal government.

The Department of Public Safety reported a state record 58 pharmacy robberies in 2012.

Andrews said the federal charges should mirror the charges in Franklin County. Wilcox was charged in Franklin Superior Court with class B robbery and theft of scheduled drugs.

Wilcox was arrested for allegedly robbing Western Maine Pharmacy of all the suboxone in stock after handing the store clerk a note that said she had a weapon.

Police arrested Wilcox on June 3, less than an hour after the robbery was reported.

The threatening note used at the pharmacy and all the medication stolen was found in a vehicle with Wilcox, police said.
