In 2 days, woman gets 3 assault charges

AUGUSTA — A city woman was charged with assault Wednesday after she struck officers for the second time in two days, police said.

Jenifer Ann Young, 29, of Augusta, was arrested and charged with assault after a disturbance on Cedar Street.

On Tuesday, she had been arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and two counts of assault after a similar incident at the same residence, said Jared Mills, Augusta’s deputy police chief.

Her Tuesday arrest occurred after police already had been called to a Cedar Street residence twice in response to noise complaints, and Mills said officers warned Young to quiet down.

The third time they responded, police tried to arrest her. Then, Mills said, Young was “combative,” and she kicked an officer, leading to the assault charges.

On Wednesday, Mills said police responded to a similar incident at the same residence featuring the same group of people. Officers advised the group to be quiet and “everyone complied except Young,” Mills said.

Then those at the residence asked Young to leave, he said. She refused and ended up slapping an officer in the neck, leading to her third assault charge in two days.

City police have a history with Young, Kennebec Journal archives show. In 2011, she was arrested and charged with assault and violating conditions of release after an incident on Glenridge Road. She got a 15-day jail sentence for violating conditions of release that December, archives show.
