NEW YORK — Ben Soule Grimmnitz has received the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Gold Humanism Award and their Emergency Department’s Medical Student Excellence Award as the outstanding Emergency Medicine student in his class.

Grimmnitz graduated as class valedictorian of Maranacook Community High School’s class of 2004, and graduated summa cum laude from Middlebury College in 2009. He began his four-year Emergency Medicine residency at Boston Medical Center in June.

Hodas graduates

from Howard University

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Maria Lapointe Hodas has graduated from Howard University College of Denistry.

A graduate of Erskine Academy, South China, Maine, Hodas received a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass., and completed postgraduate studies at Georgetown University in Washington. Prior to attending Howard University, Hodas worked for U.S. Sen. Susan Collins in Washington, and later as a program associate for the American Dental Education Associaton.

Hodas was inducted into Omicrom Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Society. While in dental school, she participated in a dentral outreach program to rural Ukraine as well as volunteer dental health efforts in the Washington metropolitan area. Hodas will enter a general practice residency at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington.Hodas is the daughter of Roland and Susanne Lapointe of Vassalboro, Maine. She is the granddaughter of Roland and Anita Lapointe, of Vassalboro, and the late Dr. Henry and Julienne Bourassa, formerly of Augusta, Maine. She and her husband, Sam, reside in Washington.

BIDDEFORD — Tim Newell, a student at the University of New England, has been named to the spring 2013 semester dean’s list.

Newell is studying biochemistry and is planning to pursue a career in forensic psychiatry. A 2010 graduate of Cony High School, he is the son of Lisa Newell of Augusta and Winfield Newell of Palm Coast, Fla.
