BIDDEFORD — Andrew Emery of Winthrop, a summer research fellow in the University of New England’s Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences Summer Internship Program, presented his research at the third annual Summer Capstone Symposium on July 31 at the University of New England. Emery’s presentation at the symposium was titled “Labeling Cells Using Label-Free Technology”.

A top 10 graduate of Winthrop High School, Emery is a senior student at the University of New England, majoring in medical biology with a minor in business administration. He was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester. During his undergraduate career, he served as president of the university’s International Medical Missions Club, leading a 20-person medical mission group to Ecuador, and has also completed community service work in Guatemala and a Global Citizenship trip to Peru.

As current president of the Pre-Dental Club, Emery has coordinated community volunteer and dental shadowing experiences. He has also participated in an independent neurospinal research project. He is captain of the men’s varsity golf team at the university, volunteers as an emergency medical technician in Kennebunkport, and has worked as a pharmacy technician at Rite Aid.

Emery hopes to attend dental school and one day manage a practice. He is the son of Robert and Donna Emery of Winthrop.
