BOWDOINHAM—A Cumberland County woman, reportedly involved in a hit-and-run crash in Gardiner, was seriously injured Tuesday when she was thrown from her car during a crash on Interstate 295.

Mona Lee Kelley, 56, of Steep Falls, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with multiple injuries, said State Police Spokesman Steve McCausland. A hospital spokeswoman said this morning that Kelley was in critical condition.

The crash occurred around 6 p.m., after several drivers called police to report a car being driven erratically on the interstate. Police were looking for the car, which had reportedly hit a guard rail in Gardiner and continued without stopping, McCausland said.

Kelley’s car overturned in the median along the southbound lane. She was thrown from the vehicle during the crash, McCausland said.
