SKOWHEGAN — A Madison woman was killed today in a one-vehicle crash on East Madison Road, according to police.

Delphine Mclaughlin, 55, of East Madison Road, Madison, was driving north at 3:18 p.m. on Madison Avenue in a 2000 Ford Focus, heading toward East Madison Road, when the car rolled over and she was thrown 40 or 50 feet from the vehicle, Officer David Daigneault said.

“She lost control and went off on the shoulder and rolled and got ejected,” he said.

Daigneault, who was the first police officer at the scene, said the crash is under investigation. Police do not think Mclaughlin, who was alone in the vehicle, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, he said.

The accident occurred just north of Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream and VIP Parts Tires & Service, where Madison Avenue splits into two roads, Lakewood Road and East Madison Road.

Daigneault said it appeared several other vehicles were traveling in the same direction as the Ford Focus a the time. Several people witnessed the crash, he said.

Police, firefighters and other emergency crews worked at the scene. Daigneault said they cleared the scene around 5:45 p.m.
