AUGUSTA — Edmund Cervone has resigned as president and CEO of the Maine Development Foundation, he said Monday.
Cervone said it’s “a happy parting” and that his resignation, effective Sept. 23, was for personal reasons.
Foundation Chairman Aldo Servello said in a news release that Cervone has led the group through a period of transition and growth during the past year.
The board has initiated a search to replace Cervone while developing a transition plan to ensure foundation projects are not interrupted, he said.
The foundation is a private, nonprofit organization created by the state in 1978 to boost Maine’s economy through a variety of outreach efforts.
Cervone, of Hallowell, had been interim president since June 2012, after having served as the foundation’s senior program director and operations officer since 2007.
He was a graduate of the foundation’s Leadership Maine Xi Class and worked in related leadership roles in other states, including Colorado, New Jersey and Delaware. Cervone received a bachelor’s of arts degree in geosciences from Princeton University and master’s of science in ecology and environmental sciences from the University of Maine.
