School officials say there’s been little time to implement changes to address Gov. Paul LePage’s A-F school grades, but they have already identified their biggest challenges and are doing everything they can to address them.

The state’s A-F report cards for schools immediately generated buzz, but it died out quickly instead of evolving into sustained conversations about education, according to parents and educators in the region.

Local school leaders say Gov. Paul LePage’s A-F rating system has had little influence so far, because it lacks funding, rewards, penalties or significant assistance.
