This coming Sunday, the United Bikers of Maine 32nd annual Toy Run, will be held. This is the largest toy run of its kind, with thousands of bikes from all over Maine and out of state converging on the Augusta Civic Center.

In anticipation of this toy run, I would like to extend our appreciation to all motorists who we may inconvenience during this event. We really appreciate their patience and understanding, and ask them to keep in mind that this event is organized by United Bikers of Maine so that those children who are less fortunate will have a happier Christmas.

Lots of bikers will carry stuffed animals strapped to their bikes, but their saddlebags also are filled with toys for both young and older children. Motorists also may not see pickup trucks loaded with bicycles donated by Darlings Auto Group and other organizations that donate for this event.

Interested motorists are invited to join the bikers at the Windsor Fairgrounds. Monetary donations also are accepted, with all money received given back to each county to be distributed to children there.

Anyone who would like to watch the parade of bikes, Kennebec County and other counties from the north will leave the Elm Plaza on Upper Main Street, Waterville, at 10:30 to go to the Augusta Civic Center and then leave the Augusta Civic Center at noon for the Windsor Fairgrounds.

We thank motorists for their patience and and ask them to remember that this is for the children.
