BANGOR — A barbecue recently was held for the patients at the Bangor VA Clinic and Nursing Home.

This event was organized through the generosity of Ray Dubois, of Dexter, and several of the staff from the clinic. Dubois has always donated to these facilities, and this year decided to organize a barbecue to enable patients to enjoy the outdoors and a summer outing. VA Clinic staff members, JoAnne Bradshaw and Debbie Pullen worked from within to help get the patients involved in this outing.

Several local business gave donations, which helped to make the day a success. John Plummer, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Waterville, donated his time playing music for the patients. His rendition of patriotic and service songs were enjoyed by the 150 patients and staff. Preparing the ribs, chicken, hamburgers and hotdogs were Ray Dubois, Forrest Breton and Paul Pontbriand of the Waterville VFW.

Helping with the serving of the buffet were Carol and Mike Monegan, Rhonda Gordon, Debbie Plummer, Patty Real and Peggy Sheridan and several staff members. Staff members from both facilities made salads and desserts to help feed the patients and families.
