GARDINER — The City Council plans to consider adopting a list of values produced from a two-year community outreach project at its Wednesday night meeting, as well as review liquor license applications and applications to fill committee vacancies.
To save money on a promotional video, councilors also expect to consider waiving its policy that requires purchases of more than $3,000 to go out to bid.
The council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall.
The Heart & Soul Community Advisory Team crafted the values from community input at several outreach events over the last two years. The Heart & Soul project was funded by a $100,000 grant from the Orton Family Foundation to create an updated comprehensive plan for the city.
The values, including family-friendliness, education, a strong local economy and livability, will be used to guide council decision-making, City Manager Scott Morelli said. The comprehensive plan, which will have more specific policy recommendations, is expected to be reviewed and approved by councilors by the end of the year.
Nate Rudy, director of economic and community development for the city, is requesting that the council waive its purchasing policy for a promotional video project because the city will be able to secure a cheaper rate by partnering with the Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center.
Both the city and the arts organization will have to pay only $4,000 instead of $6,000 to have promotional videos produced, Morelli said. The city budgeted $2,000 for the project and received a $2,000 gift from the Gardiner Board of Trade.
Morelli is recommending council waive the requirement that purchases of more than $3,000 go out to bid.
The council also is scheduled to consider:
• granting a liquor license for Dennis’ Pizza
• granting a liquor license renewal for A1 Diner
• granting a special events permit for the Celebration of Lights
• appointments to the Parks and Recreation Committee and the New Mills Dam Committee
