VASSALBORO — The Mountain Valley Conference selected three teams and 13 individuals for state tournaments at its annual qualifier Wednesday at Natanis Golf Course.
Defending state champion St. Dominic of Auburn and Wiscasset joined Winthrop as teams that have qualified for the Class C state championship Saturday at Natanis while Oak Hill qualified for the Class B tournament.
Winthrop received an automatic bid to the team tournament Monday by winning the MVC championship but still entered six golfers Wednesday to attempt to qualify for the individual tournament which will be held Oct. 19 at Natanis. Two of those golfers, Adam Hachey and Taylor Morang, shot 78s to take medalist honors while freshman Zac Robertson squeaked into the final spot with an 87.
St. Dom’s, which shot the low team score of 341, qualified five golfers for the individual tournament while Winthrop had three and Wiscasset and Madison two apiece. Qualifying for Madison were Ty Cowan (83) and Jared Miller (87) while Monmouth’s Robert Vickerson shot 80 to also qualify.
Oak Hill shot 399 to qualify as the MVC’s Class B representative while Wiscasset shot 347 to secure the final spot in Class C. Madison narrowly missed team qualifying with 358.
