LITCHFIELD — A woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital Wednesday after her Ford Focus hit a guardrail head-on in the southbound lane of the Maine Turnpike near mile marker 95 at about 5 p.m.

The accident left debris in the southbound travel lane and shoulder.

Those lanes were closed to traffic for about 40 minutes.

The driver complained of head injuries, according to a trooper at the Maine State Police barracks in Gray.
