CANTON, N.Y. — Patrick Doherty and Brian Ward scored second-period goals to break a tie and St. Lawrence beat the University of Maine 3-1 in a college men’s hockey game Friday night.

St. Lawrence took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Gavin Bayreuther. Maine tied it early in the second period when Blaine Bryon scored from Brian Morgan and Cam Brown. St. Lawrence took the lead back less than two minutes later on Doherty’s goal and Ward scored with about seven minutes left in the second to make it 3-1.

Martin Ouellette had 28 saves for Maine, while Matt Weninger had 25 saves for St. Lawrence.

Field hockey

UNH 3, Maine 2: Meg Flaherty scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Wildcats won the America East game in Durham, N.H.

Maine (6-6-0, 1-2-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Annabelle Hamilton in the first period. UNH (7-5-0, 1-0-0) tied it when Megan Bozek scored later in the first.

Maine took the lead back in the second period on a goal by Danielle Aviani, but Emma Compagna scored later in the period to tie it again.

Natasha Ford had six saves for Maine, while Carlie Tarbell had three for UNH.
