SKOWHEGAN — Hammond Lumber Company’s Skowhegan crew was recently recognized for outstanding safety performance. They have gone three straight years without a recordable injury. Additionally, they have not had an accident requiring days away from work since 2000, according to a Hammond Lumber press release.

Bruce Pelletier, Hammond’s safety director, helped celebrate the achievement.

“This safety award is among the most important recognitions that we provide because safety, on and off the job, has always been one of our long-standing goals and priorities.”

Hammond Lumber’s Skowhegan Manager Jason Gagnon said in the release. “This dedicated crew, 17 employees, many of whom have been here over 10 years, is understandably proud of their accomplishment. They work as a team with a firm commitment to safety which ultimately contributes to the well-being of our employees, contractors, and customers.”

Employees from the Skowhegan store have consistently contributed to the company’s safety committee, which the company says provides a way for workers to identify, control, and correct hazards in the workplace. Policies on correct safety procedures are discussed, as well as safety issues relating to non-work activities, fostering an overal concern for safety.
