In the Dec.15 newspaper, you carried a story about the flooding in Gaza that drove 40,000 people from their homes. The article ended by quoting a United Nations spokesman calling for the end of the blockade of Gaza.

The article did not discuss the aid that the Israeli Defense Forces gave to the people of Gaza during the storm that brought a foot of snow to Jerusalem as well as snow to Cairo. The Kerem Shalom Border Crossing between Israel and Gaza usually is closed on Friday; Friday and Saturday are the days of the Israeli weekend. The crossing was opened on Friday, Dec. 13, however, in order to supply gas for home heating. The IDF also transferred four water pumps because of heavy flooding in the Gaza Strip.

The IDF emphasizes that Israel will do everything that is necessary to assist the civilian populations in Gaza and in Judea and Samaria, with an emphasis on providing electricity to the power plant in Gaza, according to the IDF spokesperson.
