WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport police say a woman whose body was pulled from the Saugatuck River appears to have been struck by a train.
Police said Monday they were reviewing video that showed a westbound Metro North Railroad train stopped on the bridge for about 20 minutes last Thursday, while crewmembers appeared to get out and search around the lead car.
The body of 46-year-old Annette White, a Maine resident who had been living in Connecticut since July, was found the following day by duck hunters in a kayak.
Police say White’s injuries were consistent with being struck by a train. They say the death appears to be accidental.
A search Monday by officials of a bridge pier directly below the train tracks turned up a cell phone and an earring that belonged to the victim.
