Portland nonprofit seeks volunteers; training planned for tour guides

PORTLAND — The Portland History Docents consists of eight nonprofit history-oriented organizations in the Portland area. They are Maine Historical Society, Greater Portland Landmarks, Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum, Spirits Alive at Eastern Cemetery, Victoria Mansion, Tate House Museum, Friends of Evergreen Cemetery and the Fifth Maine Regiment Museum on Peaks Island.

MCI to compete in Poetry Out Loud

PITTSFIELD — Maine Central Institute students will participate in the school-wide portion of the national Poetry Out Loud competition at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Ella Powell Room of the Powell Memorial Library. This event is free and open to the public.

Hollywood Casino trip offered in Skowhegan

SKOWHEGAN — The Skowhegan Parks and Recreation Department will offer a limousine bus trip to Hollywood Casino Wednesday, Jan. 30. The bus will depart from the Skowhegan Community Center at 9 a.m. and return at approximately 5 p.m.
