OKLAHOMA CITY — A Satanist group has unveiled designs for a 7-foot tall, goat-headed deity it wants placed at the Oklahoma state Capitol.
The New York-based Satanic Temple released an artist’s rendering of the monument Monday, and a spokesman says the group has formally submitted its application to a panel that oversees the Capitol grounds.
The statue features a bearded, goat-headed demon sitting in a pentagram-adorned throne with children next to it.
Satanic Temple spokesman Lucien Greaves says the group is moving forward with plans to have the monument approved, despite recent action by the Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission to place a moratorium on considering any new requests for monuments.
The commission chairman says the group wants to wait until a lawsuit over a Ten Commandments monument has been settled.
