AUGUSTA — Capital Area Technical Center has announced its recent students of the Month.

December, 2013

Ryan Hamel is a senior at Erskine Academy enrolled in the Electrical Technology program. Hamel has enjoyed the program’s combination of the theoretical and practical aspects. He played football in the fall and was voted the most valuable player of the Greater New England Football League. In the fall, Hamel hopes to attend Maine Maritime Academy and major in marine engineering.

Miky McGuire is a senior at Cony High school enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program. She has enjoyed working in the program’s pre-school at Capital Area Technical Center. The pre-school program, My First School, is held three days a week and has 16 3 and 4-year-old children in attendance. As a child, McGuire attended this program as a member of the pre-school class. After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Maine at Augusta and to study forensic anthropology.

Mia Taylor is a senior at Erskine Academy enrolled for the second year in the Early Childhood Education program. Taylor has enjoyed her placements at The Children’s Center and in the life skills room at Lincoln School. These experiences have influenced her to pursue a career in the early childhood education field. Outside of school, Taylor plays field hockey and basketball and is employed by Kmart. She plans to attend University of Maine at Farmington in the fall to study early childhood special education.

Bailey Johansen is a junior at Richmond High School enrolled in the Building Construction program. The Building Construction program at CATC has a partnership with the Kennebec Valley Community Action Program. Under this partnership, Johansen will participate in building a house in Cony Village. He plans to become a professional carpenter.

Ross Duncan is a senior at Gardiner Area High Scholl enrolled in the Building Construction program. Duncan has enjoyed being in a class with students from different high schools that are all interested in the field of building construction. He hopes to someday build his own house as well as own a building company. Upon graduation, Duncan plans to attend Central Maine Community College and major in building construction and business.

Jeana Lang is a senior from Regional School Unit 12 in Somerville enrolled in the Certified Nursing Assistant program. This year, Lang has balanced school with a part-time job. She has also gained clinical experience at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Long Term Care at Glenridge. After graduating, she would like to be employed as an in-home health care professional.

Shelby Giannelli is a senior at Gardiner Area High School enrolled in the Certified Nursing Assistant program. Giannelli has enjoyed her clinical experience and working with patients in the field. She would like to pursue a career as a pediatrician or a radiation oncology nurse. Giannelli’s mother works in the medical field and also attended Capital Area Technical Center.
