BANGOR — City public safety officials in Bangor, Maine, have closed a plaza due to potential flooding concerns.
People have been advised Thursday morning to move their vehicles from both the east and west side of the Kenduskeag Plaza in downtown Bangor as soon as possible.
In addition, the National Weather Service says the Kennebec River at North Sidney is under a flood warning. Ice jams are causing high water on the river and rapid fluctuations in the water level are possible.
As of 5 a.m. Thursday, the river stage was 15.9 feet. Flood stage is 17 feet. The forecast is for the river to rise to nearly 17.6 feet by Thursday afternoon, and fall below flood stage by the evening.
