WATERVILLE — Stop the East-West Corridor coalition and Defending Water for Life in Maine will host the film, “The East-West Corridor: Why Not?” followed by a community dialogue with the statewide coordinator of Stop the East-West Corridor, Chris Buchanan. The 30-minute film will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Colby Room, Waterville Public Library, 73 Elm St. The event is free and open to the public.

The film gives a detailed overview of the East-West Corridor project, a Cianbro proposal to build a fenced 220-mile private limited-access toll highway and utility corridor across Maine, linking the Canadian provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick. The film explores the concept, feasibility, economic, environmental and cultural impacts of the project, as well as community resistance along the route. Following the showing, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the project with Buchanan and each other.
