If you aren’t headed to Portland anytime soon, here are a few of our local lunch favorites:
The Liberal Cup, Water Street, Hallowell
George’s always-go-to lunch place when he’s at the legislature. Great beer brewed on the premises and very tasty food, all reasonably priced.
Vittles, downtown Pittsfield
The emphasis here is on using fresh ingredients to create real food, made from scratch. “If a potato chip is served here,” said Bob Phelan who owns the restaurant with his wife Kathy, “it was a potato this morning!”
Mainely Brews Tavern, Post Office Square, Waterville
This is a fun place with a great pub and service, superb micro-brews and a surprising (and enticing) menu.
Lisa’s Legit Burritos, Water Streets in Augusta and Gardiner
Whether you are looking for a fast, reasonably priced takeout lunch or craving light Mexican food, Lisa’s got it for you in both locations.
Big Gs, Benton Avenue, Winslow
The G stands for great food. The Big stand’s for — BIG! Gerry Michaud has created a deliciously fun place.
