AUGUSTA — Lawmakers on the state’s budget-writing committee say a debate over the timing of a vote was a misunderstanding.

Republicans criticized Democrats on Tuesday after the Appropriations Committee voted on a bill that would restore $40 million in revenue sharing for the state’s cities and towns without Republican members present.

Democrats had said Republicans were told Monday that the committee would vote on the bill and those members chose not to be present.

But Republicans said they left under the impression that the committee’s work was done for the day and that work on the bill would continue Tuesday.

Republican Sen. Pat Flood and Democratic Rep. Peggy Rotundo said they were able to work through the misunderstanding and develop a plan to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
