KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia — Torah Bright is embarking on an unprecedented snowboarding triple at the Sochi Olympics.
The defending Olympic halfpipe gold medalist is also competing in slopestyle and snowboardcross. Bright took up snowboardcross a year ago on a dare from her brother, Ben, who also serves as her coach.
She’s already through to the finals in slopestyle, finishing second in her heat during qualifying on Thursday.
The 27-year-old Australian says she doesn’t feel pressure to leave Sochi with her luggage full of medals. She is a favorite in the halfpipe and a contender in slopestyle but remains a work in progress in snowboardcross.
Bright says her goal is to simply promote the sport and perhaps inspire young riders everywhere to get on their boards and get moving.
