The Kents Hill School Board of Trustees elected Patrick C. McInerney as the 19th head of school on Saturday, the independent college preparatory school announced Monday.
McInerney, who had served as interim head of school since July, has been an associate head of school, dean of students and director of admissions, as well as a biology teacher. He’s also coached soccer, skiing and tennis.
“After a thorough process including research, extensive outreach and consideration of feedback from faculty, parents and friends of the school, the search committee determined that the best candidate was in front of them,” said Steve P. Akin, president of the board, in a prepared statement.
One of McInerney’s first duties will be to develop a strategic plan, he said.
McInerney is a Bates College graduate with an advanced degree from Harvard University.
Kents Hill was founded in 1824 and has 245 students from more than 15 countries and 22 states.
