WATERVILLE — The 2014 Maine State Finals for the national Poetry Out Loud program will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Waterville Opera House.

The following students will participate: Caleigh Grogan, Bangor High School; Kobe Cancel, Carrabec High School; Julia Cornell, Catherine McAuley High School; Joel Kahn, Deering High School; Emma Beyor, Erskine Academy; Josef Biberstein, Freeport High School; Matthew Clark, Gardiner Area High School; Charlotte Feinberg, Gorham High School; Noah Gardner, Hampden Academy; Zanna Spinney, Kennebunk High School; Emma Johnson Curnin, Kents Hill School; Abigail Bergdoll, Maine Central Institute; Emily Lagace, Messalonskee High School; Rebecca Dow, Mt. Abram Regional High School; Isabelle Fall, Mt. Ararat High School; Charlotte Eisenberg, North Yarmouth Academy; Ari Jihan, Searsport High School; Thalia Muyderman, Waynflete School; and Jacob Sperber, Yarmouth High School.

Poetry Out Loud is organized by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation and administered at the state level by the Maine Arts Commission. The winner of Wednesday’s competition will represent Maine at the National Finals in Washington D.C. Kathleen Shannon, anchor of WCSH 6 television’s newsmagazine program “207”, will emcee the event. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.
