Cigarette likely cause of Madison porch fire

MADISON — Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 75 Old Point Ave. about 8:50 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to Assistant Fire Chief Don French.

The fire, which appears to have been started by a cigarette butt, was confined to the porch and did not damage the interior of the house, French said. The home belongs to Margaret Tarvit, who lives out of state, French said.

Firefighters from Anson also responded.

ARRESTS

IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, Tuesday, Jason Whitney, 29, of Wilton, was arrested on a charge of violating a condition of release.

IN PITTSFIELD, Wednesday at 2:32 a.m., Lisa Michelle Irish, 45, of Palmyra, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing.

IN SOMERSET COUNTY, Tuesday at 6:46 p.m., Michael Steven Corcoran, 33, of Moscow, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, operating a vehicle without a license and failure to register a vehicle.

8:01 p.m., Meredith Anne Metz, 20, of Raleigh, N.C., was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs on seven counts.

8:41 p.m., Matthew Robert Christen, 33, of Norridgewock, was arrested on a warrant.

9:09 p.m., Angela Hannah Mae Mantha, 34, of Skowhegan, was arrested on a charge of unpaid fines and fees on three counts.

Wednesday at 1:03 a.m., Bonnie Jean Tanguay, 34, of New Portland, was arrested on charges of reckless conduct and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.
