Saturday’s christening ceremony for the USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) at Bath Iron Works is open to the public.

The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. but BIW will begin admitting the public at 10 a.m. through the Construction Gate located on Washington Street. Cameras, purses and other bags are permitted, however all bags will be searched before entry.

BIW officials are preparing for between 4,000 and 5,000 guests, so expect traffic. And there is limited public parking available. As an alternative, BIW will be operating shuttle buses that will take riders from two park-and-ride locations to the entrance gate and then return after the ceremonies.

The two park-and-ride locations are:

— Taste of Maine Restaurant, 161 Main St., Woolwich

— BIW’s James Building, 290 Bath Road in Brunswick (near Cooks Corner)
