PITTSFIELD — The Sebasticook Valley Elks recently named Sue Nile, of Pittsfield, Citizen of the Year. Nile is the elementary physical education teacher for School Administrative District 53. The award was presented after the annual installations of officers.

In addition to being one of the most respected teachers in the community, Nile also organizes a Veterans Day celebration for her students each year. The youngsters, carrying small American flags, march from the school to Veterans’ Park in Pittsfield and participate in the patriotic observance each year.

She also encourages students and faculty to support the town’s community food bank and other charitable causes.
