I’d like to bring attention to residents of Augusta (and parents of Cony students from neighboring towns) that the Augusta school board is looking at the start time for Cony High School. Cony’s start time is 7:10 a.m., whereas all other area high schools start later. Many national and statewide studies have proven that teenagers do better in school, both academically and socially, when their high schools have switched to a later start time.
I attended a school board meeting earlier this month and heard that members have received very little feedback from parents about this issue. There are pros and cons to changing Cony’s start-time and being informed of these would benefit our kids.
The next school board meeting is Monday; opinions on this issue can be sent to [email protected]
